After dating for more than a year, The Hills’s Brody Jenner and model Jayde Nicole have called it quits.
“They did break up,” a source tells PEOPLE of Jenner – the son of Olympian athlete Bruce Jenner and songwriter Linda Thompson – and his former Playboy Playmate girlfriend Nicole. Nicole, 23, coyly addressed the split on Dec. 18, when she Tweeted, “Sometimes when you truly love someone you have to let them go…I never really understood that quote until now.”
The following night she hosted a party at Chicago’s Manor nightclub, without Jenner, 26, who was in Australia working. He left L.A. for Australia on Dec. 11 and returned on Monday. Just two days before he left for Australia, Jenner was still Nicole’s number-one fan, re-posting her Tweet for fans to vote for her in an AskMen.com poll: “I’m up for the TOP 99 of 2010 pls go vote lots!” she Tweeted.

I was with Jayde Nicole and a bunch of her playmate friends the other night at Katsuya and overheard the real reason her and Brody broke up. We were all trying to ask her about it but she looked like she was still pretty upset about it and she kept saying she didnt want to talk about it. One girl even sent her text messages and call logs of her and Brody talking to each other behind Jaydes back.Then Jayde said she confronted Brody while he was in Australia and he got really mad and broke up with her by a text message (NO KIDDING!!). After another shot she told Brittany that she was afraid that the Hills people were gonna make up a bunch of crap about the breakup now because she quit the Hills.
