Courtney Love has lost legal custody over her daughter. Two legal guardians reportedly have been appointed to care for Frances Cobain, Love’s 17-year-old daughter with the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.
According to legal documents, the court has appointed Kurt Cobain’s mother, Wendy O’Connor, and sister, Kimberly Dawn Cobain, to watch over the minor. The surprising turn of events is apparently a result of a long period of unstable conduct displayed by the 45-year-old rocker. Although the new guardians do not have control over the minor’s trust, established after Cobain’s death, they do have authority over her personally, as well as her financial well-being. No further reason as to why Love lost control over her daughter has been revealed. However, guardianships of this kind typically occur when a parent is not able to take care of his or her children. It isn’t the first time Love’s parenting skills have been put to the test. In 2003, Francis temporarily was placed under the care of O’Connor after Love was arrested for an attempted break-in at an ex-boyfriend’s home, overdosed on painkillers and made a suicide threat.
It took the singer two years to win back custody of her daughter.
